In plain words
Privacy
We ask for as little as we can and use it only for this campaign. Here is what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
When you sign
We keep:
- Your first and last name and your state.
- Your email address, and whether you'd like updates.
- Your Yes or No answer to each proposal you answered.
- Whether you asked to be shown as "Anonymous".
- Your IP address, the date and time, and the type of browser you used.
When you share a story
We keep:
- Your story, exactly as you wrote it.
- Your name, email address and state.
- Only if you give them: your phone number and your connection to the child.
- Whether you allowed your story to be shared on this site.
- Your IP address, the date and time, and the type of browser you used.
Why we keep it
- To count signatures and show lawmakers how many people support each proposal.
- To show the list of supporters on this site.
- To send campaign updates, only if you asked for them.
- To email you the form you would need to sign and mail to your state legislators, if enough people from your state support a measure.
- To read your story and, if you'd like, contact you about it.
- To prevent spam and duplicate signatures. Your IP address and browser type are used only for this.
Who sees it
- Everyone: your name and state on the Supporters page, unless you chose "Anonymous". Anonymous signers appear only as "Anonymous" and in the totals.
- Never public: your email, your No answers, your IP address and your browser type.
- Stories: only the family behind this campaign and the small team helping them read your story. It appears on this site only if you checked "Allow my story to be shared on this site", and only after the family has gently edited it. Shared stories are anonymous: your name, email and phone are never published.
- We never sell your information and never share your email with anyone.
Services we use
The site runs on our own server. Every visit passes through Cloudflare, a security and delivery network that protects the site from attacks and delivers its pages, so Cloudflare sees basic connection details such as your IP address. To keep out spam robots, the forms also use Cloudflare Turnstile, a quick check that tells people and spam robots apart by looking at basic technical details of your browser. New stories are sent to the campaign's own mailbox.
How long we keep it
We keep signatures and stories for as long as the campaign is running. When it ends, we delete them, or keep only totals that don't identify anyone.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to show your signature as "Anonymous", to correct it, to remove it, or to delete your story or your contact details. Just email info@righttoknowmyparent.com from the address you used, or tell us your name and state, and we'll take care of it.
